The word ‘gospel’ means good news. The charge of the Lord Jesus to His disciples just before He ascended to heaven was that they should go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. That commission has never been revoked and our goal is to preach the gospel across this land.

But what is the good news that Christ wanted preached? The great apostle Paul reminded the believers in the city of Corinth that they had been saved through the gospel he had preached, 1 Corinthians 15:1-2. The content of this gospel is ‘that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures’, vv. 3-4. He said that this gospel was ‘the power of God unto salvation for everyone who believes’, Romans 1:16.

Actually, part of the ‘good news’ that Paul presents in the opening chapters of Romans is actually the ‘bad news’ that ‘all have sinned and come short of the glory of God’, Romans 3:23. Until we admit that we are undeserving sinners who stand condemned by God, we will never come to Jesus to be saved from our sins. But the good news is ‘He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him’, Hebrews 7:25.

So agree with God about your sin, put your faith and trust in the Lord Jesus, and He will save you from the penalty that your sins deserve.
